The future’s bright with Motion Green Week 2023
Motion is committed to a greener, more sustainable future and passionately believes that the business community should play its part in tackling the most important issue of our lifetime – the climate emergency.
That’s why the company held its inaugural Green Week in March. The week-long schedule of events proved to be an unqualified success, educating employees about how to reduce their impact on the environment and to improve sustainability.
Sustainable travel
Employees were invited to travel to and from work by sustainable means using public transport, lift sharing, walking or cycling. Travelling sustainably will continue to be emphasised and encouraged all year round.
Volunteers contributed 18 people hours and planted more than 500 trees and bushes in Buckler’s Forest, Crowthorne to support carbon storage. Increasing hedgerows has been identified as one of the key changes needed to reach ‘net-zero carbon by 2050’, the UK’s contribution to stopping global warming.
SEGRO Park, Tottenham was announced as the Motion Green Project of the Year. Billed as the ‘greenest urban industrial development in London’, Motion is proud to have supported the scheme which has achieved the highest BREEAM score ever in the UK for an industrial building – 94.9% ‘Outstanding’.
Reducing carbon footprint
Demonstrating a proactive, holistic approach to address climate change, Motion employees logged on to a sustainability webinar. Delivered by WRM Ltd, the session was designed to improve awareness of the carbon costs and impact of everyday activities. Delegates gained an increased understanding of climate science, climate change impacts, policy and carbon footprints.
Commenting on how knowledge gained from the webinar will affect the advice he gives to clients, Transport Planner Lucas Burgess explains, “It is necessary we continue to emphasise the importance of prioritising sustainable modes of transport for any development. Also, we need to ensure that measures to reduce single-occupancy car travel are always a key consideration for developers and that these are implemented effectively once the scheme is operational.”
