The Xcel Sports Hub in Walton-on-Thames, which had its grand opening in September 2017, is a state-of-the art sports facility for the public and the new home of local clubs Walton & Hersham FC, Walton Casuals, Walton Casuals Juniors and Walton Athletics Club. The Hub’s facilities include 2 full size football pitches, training areas, an 8-lane athletics track, full field sports facilities, 6 changing rooms, a club house and a covered spectator seating for over 500 people.

TPI (now part of Motion) was integral in the design development and planning application of the scheme. We developed the vehicle access and car park arrangement to accommodate future vehicle demands for parking, servicing, taxi/coach access as well as pedestrian routes. A Transport Statement, a draft Travel Plan and the Transport Chapter for the Environment Statement were prepared to support the planning application. The transport input for the planning submission considered public transport accessibility, servicing requirements, car and cycle parking, site specific pedestrian and traffic surveys for football and athletics events. The Transport Statement set out the predicted transport impacts associated with the proposed development and identified mitigating measures where required.

Full planning consent was granted in January 2017.
