Precedents help gain support for access arrangement

Gleeson Land has been granted outline consent for 89 units at Westergate, West Sussex, with affordable homes helping to address a severe housing undersupply within the Arun District Council region.

Officers had initially been supportive of the plans but local objections were raised about arrangements for the site access, which would involve demolition of a semi-detached bungalow.  By the time of the appeal hearing, Motion had successfully argued that there were no issues relating to transport or highways, with information presented to show established precedents in the region.

According to Nick Keeley, Planning Manager for Gleeson Land, “Motion’s meticulous research was highly effective in gaining support for the principle of this type of access arrangement.”   Fiona Thorp, Motion’s Principal Transport Planner, explains, “We looked into several examples of local developments with comparable challenges to help demonstrate the suitability of the site access point.”
